Mind, Body And Spirit - Meditation Tools - Forest

May 11th, 2008

Mind, Body And Spirit - Meditation Tools - Forest
As Meditation Tools–Forest begins, you may think they’ve repackaged Meditation Tools–Sky into a forest by adding a few trees. Featuring the best soundtrack in this series of meditation tools, this journey develops from clouds and the tops of trees, to a deeper forest, to denser foliage, accompanied by intriguing sounds of birds. But whether it’s likely to enhance one’s meditation is debateable.

Unfortunately there isn’t enough to make this so compelling that you wouldn’t stop the video to answer the telephone, get up to make a cup of tea, or go and load the washing machine. If your intention is to learn how to relax this could be beneficial as it will inspire you to go for a walk to the park to be with some real trees instead of staring at them on a TV screen for 45 minutes.

Encouraging meditation–the practice of emptying the mind–through a video format requires a strong focus to keep the viewer hooked and meandering through trees just isn’t enough. –Lorna V

Mind, Body And Spirit - Meditation Tools - Sky

May 11th, 2008

Mind, Body And Spirit - Meditation Tools - Sky
After a few moments of watching images of clouds on the screen, punctuated by spiritual quotations about the importance of now, you might wonder if there is something wrong with the video. Ten, 15 minutes into this meditation video, you might very well consider that there has been a mistake and you ought to send it back… after all, who would make a video consisting of nothing other than clouds? But that’s exactly what Meditation Tools–Sky is.

Though the images are undeniably serene, they would have been better suited to another medium–perhaps wallpaper. The key problem with this format is that it suits neither beginner, nor meditation fans. Beginners hoping for advice on meditation as a way of calming the mind and de-stressing are likely to be bored or frustrated. You might just as well stare out of the window on a sunny day. Or put the TV to better use by watching something educational or entertaining.

Those hoping to sharpen their meditation skills and train themselves to sit still without distractions are also likely to be frustrated because watching the screen does not seem to add anything of value to a pursuit which requires concentration and focus. –Lorna V

Lateralus

May 10th, 2008

Lateralus
The epic scope of Tool’s excellent third album, Lateralus, could well spell a whole new era for metal. To many casual rock fans, frontman Maynard James Keenan is probably better known as the vocalist in the more MTV-friendly A Perfect Circle but it’s indisputably Keenan’s main group–art-metal pioneers Tool–that have reshaped the rock landscape most radically. Operating somewhere beyond the parameters of their closest peers Metallica and Jane’s Addiction, Tool is the sound of metal at its most sprawling, complex, ambitious and progressive. But while the group’s third album–the long-awaited Lateralus–deals with subjects as obtuse at the return of Saturn’s orbit and Keenan’s fascination with the occult works of Aleister Crowley, this is not simply the sound of pompous prog-rock given a Millennial makeover. Why? Mainly because Tool never let the concept swallow the sheer, gigantic scope of this music–from the brooding, dark instrumental passages and explosive rhythmic tension of the eight-minute opener “The Grudge” to the precise, angular mathematic construction of “Schism”. It’s true, Lateralus might be a bit much for the pogo-friendly Blink 182 fan in your life but if there’s any justice in the world, this fantastic work will do for metal what Radiohead’s OK Computer did for indie-rock. The boundaries have fallen and Tool have new horizons in sight. –Louis Pattison

Customer Review: Another amazing Tool release
When I bought Lateralus i had incredibly high expectations for I owned all the other Tool albums and loved every single one of them. Unlike 10,000 days, Undertow and Aenima Lateralus didn’t grab me instantly and i had to listen to it once or twice before i really got into it. Lateralus is a very progressive and complex album so you can expect plenty of time signiature changes and lengthy songs. My favourite songs off the album are the epic Lateralus itself, the combine Parabol-Parabola song(s) and then probably the Grudge but every song on the album is at least very good if not amazing.

I would definatley recommend this album to anyone who is capable of appreciating it.

Customer Review: Awesome
This ablum is quite possibly the greatest album ever written, in fact no scratch that it is the best. This album has to be listened to from start to finish as all of the songs blend together into what can only be described as a masterpiece. If you play the drums (like me) or you play the bass it will really stand out to you how individually telented each of the mebers of this band are

This cool ‘Little Pals’ child sized gardening kit will have the kids racing to help with the gardening. Includes a robust canvas bag, funky bucket, trowel, fork, gloves, 2 plant markers, a gardening calender and an activity guide all themed in green and pink.
Customer Review: Disappointed:
I have to say I was very disappointed with the size of this gardening set, its very small. It worked out a very expensive toy indeed, with it being ?15 + delivery charges, its alot cheaper in our local Garden Centre. I am a novice to this internet shopping and I feel quite deflated that I didn’t get a bargain. Otherwise, I hope when it is given as a gift to the 10 year old she will be exceptionally happy. It is a lovely girlie colour of pink. Delivery of the product was exceptionally fast.

Vicarious [DVD]

May 7th, 2008

Vicarious [DVD]
Customer Review: migth not be too intereting for non fans
This video differs from earlier ones in a way that you have to be a tool fan to realy sit throughout the whole 8 min. I wasn’t a big tool fan, but after seeing ‘Schism’ video my life has never been the same if you know what I mean. It was so artistic and raw it appealed to everyone. ‘Vicarious’ on the contrary didn’t have this effect on me.

On the other hand i praise the work put into making of ‘Vicarious’ ( i advise you to watch documentary first, you’ll see video in a different perspective).

But to cut my story short - i did not like the graphics. And i don’t mind at all that i have no idea what video is all about.

Customer Review: Worth Owning
The music on this dvd is great, another wondering, and joyfully heavy tune from Tool. Shamefully, the CGI video does NOT stand up to the quality of the music. While earlier videos appear to of been created over a long period, taking every part of the songs ups and downs into account,

this new video seems by comparison, a total mis-mash.

Even the people who are on the commentary do not appear to know whats going on in the video. Meanwhile the creators of the older Tool videos appear, but seem apathetic about the new video. Where as the CG guys seem overly joyous.

You cant help but think the whole thing would of looked better if created ANY other way but on a computer.

Buy it at low expense, enjoy the music, and rue the video.

Dyson Mattress Tool

May 4th, 2008

Dyson Mattress Tool
Customer Review: Dyson Mattress Tool
OK, so a vacuum cleaner tool is nothing to get excited about…but this tool is surprisingly useful! I used it to vacuum under the sofa cushions and was amazed at the amount of dust, hair and fluff it picked up!! Oh…and I found a few pound coins, too ;-)
Customer Review: Does what it says
I saw this on Amazon and thought why not. We have a Dyson (DC14 Animal), and so an extra attachment to add functionality sounded good. Basically it’s similar to an attachment we already had, but is about 3 times wider. So it sucks up more in less time. When changing the sheets I thought I’d try it out on our matress and protective cover. They appeared cleaner after passing over (but it’s hard to tell with grey/beige), and you could see more dust in the Dyson, so it must have done something!

I wouldn’t say it’s a must have, as you could do the same with the standard accessory (taking much longer). It’s good to see you can get these bits at reasonable prices - and since they fit all Dysons you could lend it to friends/family to use as well.

Seed to Seed: Seed Saving and Growing Techniques for Vegetable Gardeners
Seed to Seed is a complete seed-saving guide that describes specific techniques for saving the seeds of 160 different vegetables. This book contains detailed information about each vegetable, including its botanical classification, flower structure and means of pollination, required population size, isolation distance, techniques for caging or hand-pollination, and also the proper methods for harvesting, drying, cleaning, and storing the seeds. Seed to Seed is widely acknowledged as the best guide available for home gardeners to learn effective ways to produce and store seeds on a small scale. The author has grown seed crops of every vegetable featured in the book, and has thoroughly researched and tested all of the techniques she recommends for the home garden. This newly updated and greatly expanded Second Edition includes additional information about how to start each vegetable from seed, which has turned the book into a complete growing guide. Local knowledge about seed starting techniques for each vegetable has been shared by expert gardeners from seven regions of the United States-Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Southeast/Gulf Coast, Midwest, Southwest, Central West Coast, and Northwest.
List Price: $24.95
Amazon Price: $16.47
Used Price: $15.65
Customer Review: not thorough enough to be very useful
I don’t know if there’s a better book on the subject of seed saving, but I’ve found this book frustratingly incomplete. There’s certainly a lot of information, but it seems like a lot of really important basics were left out. I would say for a majority of the plants I would like to save seed from this year I can’t figure out from the book whether the plants will cross with other things I’m growing or how far to isolate them if they would. I’m trying to figure out right now, for instance, if tabasco peppers (Capsicum frutescens) will cross with bell peppers and other Capsicum annum. The book has about a half a page of information on C. frutescens, which I think is a lot for such a minor species, but it still fails to give me that most basic information. I’d also like to know how many plants of each type I should grow to maintain adequate genetic diversity. The author mentions the importance of this, and there are a couple plants where numbers are given, but in most cases the reader is left without any numbers. I wish all this kind of information were covered more systematically, maybe with a simple chart or short paragraph at the beginning of each of the 20 plant families covered in the book.
Customer Review: Seeds for your garden
I was informed by a noted gardener this was the best book for those that want to save seeds. I am pleased.

Registry Mechanic 6 (PC)

May 1st, 2008

Registry Mechanic 6 (PC)
Customer Review: PCTools & 64-bit
I have to agree with the previous reviewer regarding PCTools sneaky way of automatically deducting the money from your account each year. I got caught out by this and I did not even sign up for automatic renewal. They do, however, cancel the auto subscription and refund your money if you ask them to.

Also be aware that althougth the product states it works on Windows Vista, it only provides basic support on Vista. Oh, and do not buy if you have a 64-bit OS; this company seems to be very reluctant and slow about making their products 64-bit compatible.

I would choose a different product if I were you.

Customer Review: Beware of this company.
Beware of this company.

If you download and install their software, once you pay you have to register and manually prevent them from automatically debiting your account at each renewal (yes, that means they don’t need your permission to take your money)

Customer Review: Dremel 300
Anyone reading the other review might get the impression that the Dremel 300 is supplied with a chuck and not collets. This is not the case. I can only assume having just bought one that the chuck has to be purchased separately.
Customer Review: The Dremel Solution to Small-Medium Sized Projects
I recently purchased the Dremel 300 + 25 Accessories kit to replace my ageing Dremel Multi 770 cordless drill, which was now lacking in power and stamina, and did not have the threadded interface required to accept accessories such as the #670 Mini-Saw attachment. Dremel really do think of everything, and supply an amazing array of accessories and fittings to go with their drills. I purchased their Mini-Saw attachment primarily to solve a DIY problem involving cutting an acrylic bath panel, and have found this accessory to work very well. My only niggle with it, is the strange handling position you need to adopt (if you’re right-handed!), pulling the saw towards you, rather than the more traditional pushing action. But this is a minor problem, and the saw performs well, giving a very clean cut in most woods and plastics. But back to the 300-series-an excellent tool, supported by a huge array of accessories. I’m also glad to see they’ve now introduced a conventional chuck (#4486), which is easier than having to choose between 4 different sized collets. The 300 comes in a convienient plastic storage box, with allocated spaces for the most popular accessories, and a cubby-hole with a hinged lid for any other bits and pieces-although this could have been larger to accommodate some of the bulkier attachments such as the saw! Dremel tools are excellent for those smaller jobs where a full-sized power tool would be just too big and clumsy, and while they may not be as powerful as their larger cousins, they more than make up for this with their high operating speed. I also like the no-nonsense numbering system for their accessories-you see the bit you need in the catalogue or online, note down the number, and go out and buy it-simple as that!
