Customer Review: EXCELLENT!
A fast moving read, very intelligent, spells it out, I couldn’t put it down. Which is unusual for books of this type. Normally the going to very dry, exceedingly droll. but this author lays everything out in highly interesting fashion. The points made are worth making, too, which alone sets it apart from other books in this genre.
Customer Review: Clear, concise, interesting and excellent
There are a LOT of coffee-table books out there which purport to help you with aspects of gardening. There are a lot of books full of fancy photographs and complex text. This book is as unlike those as are cheese and chalk. This is probably one of the clearest, best organised and well written books on this subject that you will ever find. Every aspect is thought out to the Nth degree - text is clear and descriptive without becoming overly technical. Photographs and diagrams are clear and useful. The organisation is as near perfect as possible. All-in-all … this book is probably the only book on this subject that you will ever need unless you intend opening a market garden. And even then, I reckon it would be hard to beat.

Customer Review: tommy walsh bathroom diy
This is a good basic guide (and not American), but not comprehensive to fitting a bathroom, Far too many pages on what bathrooms look like (brochures are free), what tools look like and pictures of Tommy. It covers most subjects but from only one ideal aspect, any complications in your project would leave you with questions, experts invariably leave out the obviouse. And talking of experts this guide tells you to leave the tricky stuff like electrics to the experts! Whether you feel up to it or not that”s not a DIY guide. The world is not perfect and Its a shame you have to learn about tricky fittings and options in the shop and not in the book.

Customer Review: Inspiring and so easy it makes you feel like a cheat!
I love this book; I have been crafting for about 2 years now and was ready to take the challenge of sewing and knitting a bit further. This book is not only easy to follow but it also gives you confidence to have a go at things you might not. A very good starting point for a bigger and better ideas all of your own.
Customer Review: A great place to start if you’re not expecting miracles
At first I was disappointed by the quality of clothes I could make (most of the designs are pretty shapeless and don’t look particularly well made), my head being full of dreams of those gorgeous evening dresses you see in pattern books. However on closer inspection this book is a light somewhere at the start of the tunnel. Reading it (though I haven’t made anything yet) has given me great confidence that once I’ve managed to cobble together a few things from the book, some of which may even be wearable (which is more than I can say for my GCSE textiles project of 4 years ago). I will have a good foundation on which to start on the road to those dresses of my dreams.

Customer Review: Very disappointed
The programme is abysmal, not at all intuitive, and the manual is worse. Putting even a fence in was difficult enough, but I stuck with it. However, having just spent the best part of an hour trying to create a simple slope I will be binning it shortly.
Customer Review: Not bad at this price
At this price I was surprised how good this program is. OK - you have to persevere and the help instructions are almost useless (they seem to relate to a completely different version). Landscaping in particular is quite difficult. However, I did manage to produce a passable plan and successfully used the 3D views. It’s a shame the plant enclopedia is not more extensive.

Motorola PC 620 USB Mobile Phone Tools Suite

November 1st, 2007

Motorola PC 620 USB Mobile Phone Tools Suite
Customer Review: rip off
i think it’s outrageous that you have to pay for this software in the first place. samsung offer an equivalent program on their website for free. a big black mark for motorola!!!

Customer Review: Disappointing software
I had version 4 with my new V3im along with a mini usb data cable. The software worked fine the first time I used it and I downloaded/uploaded photos and ringtones between the phone and PC and synched with outlook. My sister had the V3i phone and had problems getting the software to stay connected to her phone long enough to transfer anything. I tried my phone again and had exactly the same problem. It initialises and the phone display comes up but as soon as you go into the media manager it loses the connection with the phone. I’ve reinstalled it and it was no better. I ended up removing it completely from my PC and buying a bluetooth dongle from Tesco. I now use the bluetooth to move photos and ringtones about. Unfortunately I could not recommend MPT to anyone even though it was supplied with the phone. Motorola should take a leaf from Samsung’s book - their website is fantastic and you can download the software and updates free and it works every time - you can edit photos/transfer music/backup your contacts etc with no problems at all.

Tommy Walsh’s DIY Survival
You almost expect a 3-D cut-out of TV’s DIY expert Tommy Walsh to fall out of this bright blue hardback, Tommy Walsh’s DIY Survival. To start with there’s the vibrant colourful layout, the bold graphics and lots of readable small chunks of text with super-clear photos. Then there are the cheesy pics of Walsh (plenty of them) in an assortment of DIY garb, from shorts to trackpants, sporting an encouraging smile while holding up an assortment of tools. DIY Survival is designed to be fun but it’s also a lot more than that.

Should you be in the throws of major DIY expeditions, this might inspire a tantrum, because let’s face it, we all need a Tommy Walsh of our own. But this is probably the next best thing. Here’s a bloke who wants to do more than demystify DIY. He hopes he might even save us the average call-out fee of ?50 for a plumber or builder.

DIY-phobics will greatly appreciate the simplicity of the instructions which seem idiot-proof and include all the basics from explanations of tools to changing a light bulb, and planning before a DIY task. As for DIY-fanatics, keep this away from them. Creating kitchen units, connecting a washing machine, renovating floorboards, building a barbecue… your home will be unrecognisable. Full of great instructions and excellent tips, this manual is terrific value. –Lorna V

Customer Review: Idoits guide
This is a simple book for people with little to no knowalge of building practasices. P>With tips that go along the lines of use fibre glass insulation to insulate cavity walls he outlines what should be common sence All I am saying is that if you don’t expect much then you wont be dissapointed.
Customer Review: Confidence builder
You need to know what you want, before you buy this book. This book is not a DIY manual. Its doesn’t pretend to be and it doesn’t weigh enough! This book is a DIY guide - it covers the most common issues. If you do buy this book, you may in due course decide you want a full manual. I find myself using DIY Survival for an overview, and then going to my manual for more detailed guidance. A good DIY manual is ultimately essential, but they are daunting. As a toe in the water, that is still very useful, this book is ideal. Clearly that was the intention, but it is not easy to achieve. The challenge is to cover enough circumstances to be useful, and enough detail to be helpful, without turning the book into a dull, incomprehensible manual. So, that is what this book is. How does it perform? In short, extremely well. Navigation is straight forward, there are lots of pictures, and Tommy’s own anecdotes and tips. The writing style is jaunty and conversational. All in all it gives sensible advice. It has only 140 pages to play with, but does seem to pack in all the basics, and plenty of the more complicated tasks. For example, we have “Mending a fuse and fitting a plug”, “Fixing ceramic floor tiles”, “Replacing panes of glass”, and “Building a barbecue”. As mentioned previously I use this book alongside a manual (I would specifically recommend the Collins Complete DIY Manual), but this book does stand up on its own. DIY is all about confidence and DIY Survival will help you to gain some.

Customer Review: Beware this CD out dated and now repackaged
I discover that this CD old CD was once called Romany Growing Plants and has now been re-packaged. Read the review in the March issue of Computer Active you'll see it says Romany Growing Plants is also available as Your Garden Encyclopedia from Focus. This program starts to wilt under close scutiny. First of all, the interface feels incredibly dated, and although the cover claims that the program is 'interactive' it can hardly carry this clain by modern standards. Quite what the use is of features such as a 10,000-yeal diary, address book and calculator escapes us, and while some ground is made up in the program's broad coverage of plant types and characteristics, there is a consistant lack of depth to the information. altogether this package falls short for anyone seeking real practical help in the garden, and at no pointdoes it feel like a product that has been designed with the UK gardener in mind.
Customer Review: Does not live up to expectations
This CD does not live up to expectations, I thought from the description that it it had a vast range of plants and information but it turned out to lack many of my garden plants. My overall impression was it is of inferior quality. It was not expensive and so has my two star rating.

Customer Review: Good introduction for the novice exotic gardener
This is a very handsome book, and what it lacks in substance and wit from the absence of Christopher Lloyd in many of the sections, it makes up with Jonathan Buckley’s wonderful photography and the occasional radical insight. It’s not a terribly cohesive book due to the number of contributors and some of the subjects covered, but Lloyd’s sections and those by Roy Lancaster and Helen Dillon are sage and full of their enthusiasm for a different kind of planting. I can’t say that this is a book for the truly adventurous garden, as such a gardener is well beyond the plants suggested in this book, and some of the advice on hardiness of certain plants is as woefully cautious and unadventurous as the advice given in RHS tomes. Quibbles aside, it is a nice addition to the exotic garden canon, but it would be nice to have a book that really did push the boundaries of exotic planting and garden design.
