This is a superb book for the novice investor or someone with a small amount of experience. The author explains where whe collects her research for shares and how she organises the data. Without research one might as well put money on the 3.30 at Ascot for all the results it will produce. I have found the information invaluble for helping me research my investments in a logical manner thus removing some of my panic and increasing my confidence. Bernice Cohen’s book correlates with other well respected investors, such as Jim Slater and so will appeal to people who want to understand the donkey work that is needed for investing.

Customer Review: Beware of what it says on the pack
Although on the face of it this looks like a good value pack my disappointment began with discovering that the DIY CD is not compatible with Windows XP, despite the package being advertised as suitable for the XP platform. Amazon’s returns policy tells me that I cannot return it as I have removed it from its plastic wrapping so I am not a happy bunny. Visual Home Deluxe is an American product and the house sfeatured are not ones you are likely come across in the UK or Ireland nor are the design styles. I was most interested in using it for trying out interior decoration i.e. testing colours in different rooms and specifically the hallway but the hallway does not feature nor does the colour option. Very disppointing all round

Overall a good introduction to the subject, but if you are looking for a DIY guide to loft conversion, then look elsewhere. This book is packed with instructive diagrams throughout and gives a thorough overview of roof construction past and present. The only thing I feel could improve this book is a more thorough treatment of the loft conversion section.

My partner and I were inspired to build our own house by the previous version of this book and now we are in this one so I think it’s reasonable to call it inspiring. This is a book with substance and great coffee table pictures as well. A good mix of technical advice and the stories of self builders written by a self builder and very experienced green Architect.
