PRAISE FOR FASHION DIY FROM TODAY’S HIPPEST DESIGNERS

“For me, fashion has always been about evoking a mood –– whether it is intellectual, romantic, or both simultaneously––and Carrie Blaydes and Nicole Smith have isolated a myriad of different moods that we can all relate to. The art school skirt, my personal favorite, could work with a Victorian blouse and create a cool, brainy-gal look. Or, paired with a simple tank, the same skirt tells a bohemian story.

In Fashion DIY Carrie and Nicole have addressed an enormous scope of different styles. Offering advice on how to achieve the easy elegance of a swing blouse, as well as the conversational Falling Leaves Scarf. These two ladies have made style and craft blend into a simple and accurate endeavor. They have created the perfect recipe for a Fashion DIY.” —Alice Roi

“What sets Fashion DIY apart from its counterparts is its refreshingly methodical approach to such a creative art, including practical guidelines and focused questions for the reader, offering strategy for beginners to better manage what can sometimes be quite a daunting endeavor. And while it covers all the necessary basics of embellishment, Fashion DIY is surprisingly inventive, employing the use of recent technologies in the creation of fun and legitimately unique additions to traditional alterations.”

Customer Review: Worth it
This is a lovely book. Deals with stuff to wear. Ten techniques are explained (trimming, beading, colour manipulation among others) and then three projects for each technique are given, each progressively more advanced. I’d wear everything in this book. Cool ideas, stylish and hip without being unwearable even if you’re quite conservative. No jeans turned into skirts here.

Customer Review: Fun to build, but is it natural?
There is a wide range of projects in this book, from the reasonably straightforward to those which call for a sizeable degree of skill. I rather struggled with the hydraulic probe, but there was an intense burst of satisfaction on completion! This is a fine selection of designs certainly, but I am only giving it four stars. Doreen has grown quite attached to her ‘Bastille Battering Ram’ and I am being asked to refuel the petrol-driven engine at least once a week! However, personally I believe that natural ways are the best and I soon found myself returning to traditional methods- a king-sized tub of lard and a rubber glove is more than enough for me!

Duracell Plus 9V x 2 Batteries

January 30th, 2008

Duracell Plus 9V x 2 Batteries
9V, 2BP, 9V=MN1604=6LR61

Customer Review: More powerful than the average
I really have noticed that duracell 9 volt batteries last longer and provide more of a shock to my tounge than most 9 volt batteries. They are also hardwearing, not that this is particularly important for a battery, but there are some cheap ones that break basically from falling on the floor! These batteries managed to power a range of electrical appliances in my house, and that is all I`m asking of them. Let`s face it: batteries are basic, and with these ones perfection is almost there. The only reason I gave them 4 stars instead of 5 was because they are not rechargable - simple as that. Mind you, I wouldn`t spent too much effort trying to buy these online - most good convenience stores stock these, and deffinatley all hardwear shops, so if I were you, I would just get out there and get them by hand.

Customer Review: Brilliant
Duracell produced these to provide power to certain electrical goods. They provide power to certain electrical goods. Basically, you can’t expect much more from a battery

I am a builder and bought this book to help imporve my brickwork and blockwork skills. It did not. It is American and does not ‘translate well’.
Customer Review: Ok with Fosters Lager
There’s a lot in this book and the author obviously knows his trade but he’s Australian. I purchased this book for the concrete block section in readiness for my garage build. In this respect the book is useless and discusses non UK block sizes. I agree with the first review here, if in the UK look elsewhere.

Customer Review: Excellent companion book
I am a time served qualified plumber and oil heating engineer with over 20 years experience in the industry. This book is concise and objective for all those wishing to learn the craft of plumbing. I believe others imagine this book to be a ‘quick fix’ guide to plumbing. Like with any other profession, experience over time is the most valuable training tool and excellent books such as this one just accompany that experience.
Customer Review: Its The Basics
I’ve been in the building trade for 20 years and I have my city and guilds advanced in two trades plus I am a trained assessor and verifier. However I do beleive the old school qualifications are far better than those today as I meet so many so called NVQ advanced tradesmen that have not got a clue. Anyhoots I think some of the reviews are totally unfair here for what the book is meant to be. Its the basics. I dont have this version. I have the 1991 version and I find it is just brilliant. Plumbing a home can be taught in 1 to 2 weeks max its so easy it hurts! That though is not the trade, the trade involves large scale developments, but the plumbing needs for a home are simple. The good thing about this book is it gives the basics. IE how to fit a rad, fit a bathroom suite and even a basic gravity fed system. Plus in my version I dont see no errors that are dangerous! This book is a great first book - if your wishing to design a complicated heating system then this is not for you. If yyou wish to fit taps, bathrooms, outdoor taps, run some new pipe, conduct maintanence and even fit a basic gravity fed system then this book is for you. But if like me you just fitted a multifuel burner gravity fed system with solar heater backup all running to a thermal store with solar PV running all electrics off grid and a neutraliser fitted to allow a gas boiler to be fitted as back up energy errrrrr then this book will not have all that info. For any novice this is a good buy and it is one book I will never part with. Hope it helps Phil ;-)

Organic Alfalfa Sprouting Seeds - One of the most popular, nutritious & delicious of all sprouting seeds. Alfalfa sprouts are very tasty, with a sweet, nut-like flavor. Alfalfa sprouts are what people typically think of when you mention sprouts. They are the ones you commonly see at a salad bar. Rich in phytochemicals, they protect against cancer, heart disease, osteoporosis and fibrocystic breast disease. They stimulate natural killer cell activity, which strengthens the immune system. What’s more, they are beneficial in reducing symptoms of PMS and menopause, including hot flashes. Furthermore, they contain high concentrations of antioxidants, the body’s defense against the destruction of DNA which is the cause of aging. Alfalfa sprouts are abundant sources of vitamins A, B, C, E and K, the minerals calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium and zinc. Also carotene, chlorophyll, amino acids and trace elements. They contain 35% protein. One pound of alfalfa seed produces 10-14 pounds of sprouts.

The Toolbox Murders [1978] (NTSC)

January 29th, 2008

The Toolbox Murders [1978] (NTSC)
Customer Review: Not Scary But True
I can only assume the reason this film was banned was because of police embarrassment or as respect to the real life victims. Brief glimpses of a masked madman with various drill attachements setting about murdering the neighbours in a quiet suburban area then kidnapping the daughter of one of the deceased should lead to a mass murder hunt. In this case one detective was deemed to be enough.

The clues: The killer only had to forcefully enter the home of one of the three victims. The kidnapped girl bore an uncanny resemblance to the tragically lost daughter of the properties owner. The owner & his nephew were carrying out repairs to their properties at the time. The nephew was provided with a huge toolbox to carry out these repairs.

The faults: Cameron Mitchell [Uncle Buck] spilt more blood in the High Chaparral but sang just as badly. When the brother of the kidnapped girl suggested that the killer may have a key to the properties & could indeed be the owner our lone detective fell about laughing.

To sum up: The fact that the story is based on true events makes you feel less disappointed. As a docu-drama it is passable. As a horror film if this scares you i expect black & white Mummy/Werewolf presentations have the same effect. I am in the Excalibur/Alien lover class [but Disney's Big Red had me wailing] and love the modern cinema’s gruesome effects. So sadly if you are like me & love being scared don’t bother with this tame effort but if you don’t like sleeping in the dark it’s not for you either.

A definite MISS that should have been left undisturbed. JimP

Customer Review: CHIZEL, HAMMER, NAILGUN, DRILL !! !! !! !! !!
The Tool Box Murders was a hard film to review, i love the films in Vipcos Vault of Horror and this was the film that got me into them! This film has been censored and edited quiet badly but there isnt that much of a difference from the uncut version, most of the death scenes were hard to see properly or were off-screen anyway. The Tool Box Murders was previously banneed (put on the video nasty list) and has been in that status for a surprisingly long time!
This film definetly has all the characteristics of a good slasher film and has a brilliant array of death scenes and weapons (or in this case tools). The killer is only saw with his black ski mask on at the start of the film but his face is discoverd near the end.
The Tool Box Murders has one of the strangest ending though, i wont tell you what happens because that will gust spoil it but i didnt like the ending and in my opinion it had a bad effect on the film!
But nomatter how rubbish this film may be it definetly gains a star for having the coolest and most relevant name a slasher has ever had! And for people who like this type of film it definetly catches your eye (especialy as the vipco DVDs have big yellow titles on a black back-ground).
The other thing i noticed about this film is how quiet it is, even when the women he kills are screaming you can hardly hear them for some reason (its not like their screaming quietly either) and whenever someones talking theres never a noise in the background, its just a very quiet conversaiton. This isnt a bad thing though, it doesnt have any affect on how good or bad the film is.
All the other things in this film are typical of a Vipco' movie, bad acting, bad dubbing, terrible picture, a below avarage story (this doesnt count all vipco' films).
I would reccomend this to any slasher or Vipco film fans but anyone else would probably hate this film!!!!

Customer Review: Caveat Emptor - let the buyer beware!
I already own William Cook’s excellent “Complete Guide” and had assumed that this would be an expansion of the section on cabinet work, perhaps with more examples and a higher degree of technicality. I was deeply disappointed to receive no more than a reprint of the section, together with the obligatory “This is a chisel” section found in most such books, however specialised. I suggest that the fact that this is only a reprint of part of an earlier book should be clearly stated in the publicity blurb on the website. Peter Flewitt
Customer Review: Sound advice for furniture care but be aware it is a part work
Good sound advice if you are looking to repair or restore old/antique furniture particularly surface repairs or releathering tops, not so helpful about modern furniture. Clear concise instructions, well illustrated with excellent pictures. However it is part of The Complete Guide to Repairing and Restoring Furniture so if you are going to buy that book by Billy Cook don’t buy this.

Customer Review: THE Bible for Weddings on a Budget
I’m newly engaged and just received this book for Christmas from my sister. I’m planning a very small (35 people) wedding and want it to be casual, elegant, and most of all, budget-friendly. Without this book, I honestly would not have known where to begin. Places like The Knot seem to cater to large, formal, expensive weddings and I just wasn’t getting much help there. Kelly covers everything from DIY invitations and favors to food, drinks, and music. I love the real life stories that are scattered throughout the book and Kelly’s tips on where to find things inexpensively. Bottom line, before reading this, the idea of eloping in Vegas sounded more appealing than planning a wedding. Now I can’t wait to get started!

Customer Review: The complete Pool Manual for Homeowners and Professionals
This book really does provide, as its title suggests, a step-by-step guide to everything you could ever need to know about setting up and maintaining a pool. Although the book contains a wealth of information about pools, spas and hot tubs, the book is well-written and easy to read. What most impressed me is that, while reading the book, you can’t help but get the impression that the author really does have first-hand experience of everything he is writing about. This gives a certain level of comfort and confidence to the reader that this book will, on its own, provide all the information you could need to know about designing, setting-up and maintaining a pool. During each step of the process the author provides details, from his own experience, of things that could go wrong thus ensuring that that you won’t make the same mistakes. The author obviously is passionate about the subject of pools and wants to make sure that anyone who wants to have a pool will be able to have one that they will enjoy and not cause problems or undue expense. Pools have the potential to be dangerous in terms of the hazardous chemicals involved, not to mention the lethal combination of water and electricity. However, these subjects are addressed in great detail and therefore any potential dangers should be avoided allowing pool-owners to enjoy their pools in the knowledge that they are safe to use. The book will be useful to the home-owner who wants to establish their own pool as it will provide an understanding of the basics of pools and how to maintain them, but the depth and breadth of information provided also means that it would be useful to professionals already working in the pool business.
