Schism [DVD]
Customer Review: Lustmord…
Two groundbreaking bands merge to create this excellent DVD. Amazing video, even more amazing remix by legendary Lustmord. 5+

Customer Review: Fantastic!!!
TOOL videos are just unbelievable. They look so beautiful the attention to detail is mind blowing!
If you’re a TOOL fan you’ll know that already.
The only time I saw the Schism video before was at a TOOL gig a few years back.
This DVD is well worth the money, the remix is fantastic. It’s not a cut and paste, with bits thrown in job like most “remixes” this is completely different. It’s long!!
I’ve yet to check out the commentary but I doubt it’s “boring”.

If you liked Salival you’ll love this.

Dyson DC16 Tool Kit

February 17th, 2008

Dyson DC16 Tool Kit
Customer Review: Moderately useful
The DC16 accessory kit comprises four items - a soft dusting brush, a stubborn dirt brush, a wide nozzle tool and an extension hose.

The soft brush is quite useful, having slightly softer bristles and a nozzle double the width of those on the combination accessory tool that you get with DC16 so being able to pick up dust more quickly from things like electronic equipment (tops of TVs and such), sideboards and tables. Although the bristles are fairly soft, I wouldn’t recommend that the tool is used on things like LCD and plasma screens as there is still a chance that it could scratch them. Uses for the stubborn dirt brush are less obvious as the bristles aren’t all that much stiffer than those on the combination tool and don’t cover much more of an area, although it is able to collect pet hair and dirt from smaller areas like car floors. Both of these brushes feel like they’re made of quite cheap plastic and would break if subjected to any sort of rigorous use; this might be a problem for the stubborn dirt brush in particular.

The wide nozzle tool is probably the most helpful of the items in the kit, the most obvious use for it being for mattresses and larger, non-sensitive areas. It’s about four times wider than the combination tool and, when pressed against a flat surface, is able to concentrate the suction more than you’d expect. It also feels slightly (if not a lot) tougher than the brushes.

Lastly, the extension hose is a plastic hose containing a spring similar to that in a Slinky toy, but stronger, so can extend from its contracted length of a little over a foot to a length when extended of around four feet. In truth, it’s a bit of a pain holding the DC16 in the one hand whilst straining to reach an elevated area that needs dusting, and leaving the DC16 on the ground isn’t an option as it tips over quite readily. The tool does, however, make it easier to get into small spaces such as under beds and other low-down places where stretching isn’t so much of a problem.

I can really only see either of the brushes in this kit being used very occasionally, although the wide nozzle tool and extension hose are a better inclusion and you might well get some mileage out of them. However given the price of the kit, I’m not convinced that any of the items are particularly useful or that good value for money.

Complete Step-by-step Upholstery

Customer Review: good-looking book
In spite of the book contains the huge information about reupholstering the old furniture No new methods described. For example the polyurethane foam is not a deal- the only horse hair and so on. The method of material calculations not included also like as you already have the fabrics factory in your home and don’t need to by the fabrics. In any case the book can be helpfull for the people who is interesting in remodeling of old armchairs or chairs in conjunction with old master secrets. Just be prepared to have all necessary materials in your hands. Good luck.
Customer Review: Complete Step-By-Step Upholstery by David Sowle and Ruth Dye
This beautiful, inspirational book seduced me into believing that I could reupholster an antique sofa of tricky dimensions. The gorgeous photographs, clear illustrations and sensible step-by-step instructions were logical and easy to follow. The completion of each stage was satisfying and thrilling and enhanced my confidence in my ability to complete the project. to a professional level. The final result is a pleasingly luxurious and elegant sofa. I can’t believe I did it myself and treasure the book that made it possible.

Salival (CD + NTSC Video)
The elaborately packaged Salival is a reminder of how creative and powerful the hard rock group Tool can be. One disc of this deluxe two-disc set serves up 74 minutes (eight songs) of live material and outtakes; the other offers a VHS compilation of Tool’s four grotesquely artistic videos plus the bonus clip, “Hush”, from their 1992 “Opiate” EP. Although there’s little that’s new here, it’s put together with as much intensity and attention to detail as the quartet’s other releases. The musical high point is the driving but delicate take on “Pushit”. It’s also entertaining to hear singer Maynard James Keenan in a Neil Young kind of mood on “Lame”. –Janiss Garza

Customer Review: quick, but it before its too late…
Having shelled out on this on import i was always going to be biased towards this album, but im ecstatic so say that it didn’t disappoint me in the slightest. As usual Maynards gorgeous vocals add to the powerful music. Every song it a treat, with the possible exception of “LAMC” (but that the point of the song!). clearly yht best thing on the CD is “No Quarter” and the amazing version of “Pushit”. The videos are so artfully and amazingly well done they stand up to repeated viewings, with the standout “Stinkfist” being the most obvious. As this band have progressed they have gone to strength to strength, with this closing one chapter of Tool’s career, it was the perfect prelude to the majest that was “Lateralus”. You have to buy it. Now!!
Customer Review: A stopgap, but still the best thing in ages.
I’ll admit it. I’m an absolute Tool *fantatic*. I first heard them in New Zealand (where you can actually - shock, horror - hear them on the radio!), and saw them live out there in 1997. In my book Aenima is a good contender for best album of the 90s, and Undertow and Opiate are impressive too. As for Salival? Well, you KNOW you’re being suckered into buying a load of stuff you’ve heard before, but I really didn’t care. The live version of Pushit is fantastic, and it’s nice to hear You Lied in a decently recorded form at last (bootlegs having been available for years). The clear high-point in my book is No Quarter though - somehow they managed to sound enough like Led Zeppelin for the song to sound authentic, while still maintaining their own identity. Well done! Admittedly, Salival isn’t an album I’m going to be playing front-to-back for the next five years (like I have with Aenima), but it’s a great album to dip into. And the video content is always good, if you don’t mind the fact that they’re a little “inspired” by the Brothers Quay. The one thing that bugs me about this album, really, is the fact that the release delay is absolutely typical of the UK. What is it with this county? If people aren’t out there buying disturbingly bad CDs like Hear’Say or Robbie Williams then they’re being “alternative” and buying Limp Bizkit! The more transparent the marketing ploy, the more desperate people in the UK seem to be to buy something?!? I’m confused. Ah well. Buy this CD, and take some small consolation that you can still get music like this over here. It won’t last. (And a note for any drummers who might happen to read this: Just get the album. Danny Carey is one of the most underrated players in rock today)
