Lateralus
The epic scope of Tool’s excellent third album, Lateralus, could well spell a whole new era for metal. To many casual rock fans, frontman Maynard James Keenan is probably better known as the vocalist in the more MTV-friendly A Perfect Circle but it’s indisputably Keenan’s main group–art-metal pioneers Tool–that have reshaped the rock landscape most radically. Operating somewhere beyond the parameters of their closest peers Metallica and Jane’s Addiction, Tool is the sound of metal at its most sprawling, complex, ambitious and progressive. But while the group’s third album–the long-awaited Lateralus–deals with subjects as obtuse at the return of Saturn’s orbit and Keenan’s fascination with the occult works of Aleister Crowley, this is not simply the sound of pompous prog-rock given a Millennial makeover. Why? Mainly because Tool never let the concept swallow the sheer, gigantic scope of this music–from the brooding, dark instrumental passages and explosive rhythmic tension of the eight-minute opener “The Grudge” to the precise, angular mathematic construction of “Schism”. It’s true, Lateralus might be a bit much for the pogo-friendly Blink 182 fan in your life but if there’s any justice in the world, this fantastic work will do for metal what Radiohead’s OK Computer did for indie-rock. The boundaries have fallen and Tool have new horizons in sight. –Louis Pattison
Customer Review: Another amazing Tool release
When I bought Lateralus i had incredibly high expectations for I owned all the other Tool albums and loved every single one of them. Unlike 10,000 days, Undertow and Aenima Lateralus didn’t grab me instantly and i had to listen to it once or twice before i really got into it. Lateralus is a very progressive and complex album so you can expect plenty of time signiature changes and lengthy songs. My favourite songs off the album are the epic Lateralus itself, the combine Parabol-Parabola song(s) and then probably the Grudge but every song on the album is at least very good if not amazing. I would definatley recommend this album to anyone who is capable of appreciating it. 9/10
Customer Review: Awesome
This ablum is quite possibly the greatest album ever written, in fact no scratch that it is the best. This album has to be listened to from start to finish as all of the songs blend together into what can only be described as a masterpiece. If you play the drums (like me) or you play the bass it will really stand out to you how individually telented each of the mebers of this band are

MicroMat Techtool Pro 4 Universal (Mac/Leopard)

March 29th, 2008

MicroMat Techtool Pro 4 Universal (Mac/Leopard)
Customer Review: doesn’t do much - and takes a long time about it!
back in the old macOS 9 days, micromat made a couple of good disc utilities. since the advent of OSX hower, they’ve really lost the ball and techtool pro is a classic example. first off, let’s get one thing clear; this “disc repair” utility doesn’t actually “repair” anything much. think i’m kidding? - well i’m not. techtool pro will spend hours [literally!] scanning your disc and e-v-e-n-t-u-a-l-l-y present you with a report telling you what’s wrong but it doesn’t actually fix anything beyond the odd missing ‘custom icon’ or incorrect bundle bit.

if your mac’s really playing up [crashing frequently, files disappearing etc], the chances are your disc’s got directory damage - and techtool pro can’t help you there. you’ll need to use something like discwarrior by alsoft [also available on amazon] to repair the disc. so what exactly does techtool pro offer that the free [bundled with the system] disc utility doesn’t? well apart from being able to impotently tell you your disc needs repaired [at about a tenth of the speed of disc utility] not a hell of a lot. oh yes, there are a whole bank of tests lined up in it’s revolting 70’s sci-fi styled interface, but do you really need to waste good money on a utility to tell you such things as whether your internet connection is working, whether your sound port is working, how fast your processor is and whether your RAM works or not?

techtool pro does also offer a ‘disc optimising’ routine which defragments your hard drive. anyone who used to curse the norton utilities defragging routine under classic, when it used to take an hour or so to optimise a 20GB or so drive will be pining for those days once they set techtool pro’s ’slug-on-mogadon’ optimising routine going. i’ve left it overnight on occasion and crawled bleary-eyed from my pit in the morning to find it still barely halfway done. this is one seriously s-l-o-w piece of software [in all of its functions]. there can be few more dispiriting sights than gazing forlornly upon techtool pro’s apparently stationary progress bar when it’s about a third full and watching the text below which says “step 345254 of 6312950″ slowly incrementing at the rate of about one every second.

this is a terrible piece of software [if you don't trust my opinion, check out the reviews on versiontracker or macupdate] - avoid it like the plague!

Customer Review: BUY IT NOW!!
This is something you should buy now, rather than when you have a problem!

Together with Disk Warrior, Tech Tool Pro offers a complete solution to pretty much any problem you will have, barring a electronic fault (it can even warn you if a hard drive is failing & where.

Excellent software - that works even better if you have it installed on a separate emergency boot up drive (you would be advised to do this if you want disk optimisation)

These days you can get a fast Hard drive pretty cheap & then install OS X + Tech Tool Pro & Disk Warrior and have the best emergency disk you could ask for, and not break the bank.

With unpredictable spring snowstorms, growing cilantro starters can be risky. One unexpected frost can wipe out a month’s growth of delicate, new sprouts. Likewise, autumn weather often turns harsh before busy gardeners have finished harvesting. Rumford Gardener gives green thumbs respite from Mother Nature’s precarious weather, and extends the growing season with its lightweight, portable greenhouse.

The sturdy, tubular, steel frame assembles quickly with interlocking pieces. A protective, powder-coated finish helps resist weather-related damage. The clear PVC cover wraps around the greenhouse to insulate plants, while providing plenty of light exposure. The cover’s front panel unzips from both sides–so gardeners can roll up the front panel on warmer days and seal it at night. Four, wire grid shelves support trays of seeds, starts, and potted plants. Each shelf measures 27 by 18 inches, and holds plants up to 13 inches tall. A top shelf supports plants up to 19 inches high.

The greenhouse’s lightweight structure makes transport easy. During early spring and late fall, gardeners may opt to carry it outside for daylight hours–allowing plants the benefits of sun and fresh air–and return it indoors at night to avoid frost damage. In windy climates, it’s best to weigh the greenhouse down to keep it from toppling over. Putting the greenhouse together is simple with included instructions. No additional tools are required. Assembled, the greenhouse measures 63 by 27 by 18 inches. Unassembled, it measures 13-1/2 by 3 by 16 inches and weighs 12-1/5 pounds. Rumford Gardener covers this product with a lifetime warranty. –Jessica Reuling

Customer Review: Very convenient
Frankly, I did not expect so good a product for the price. I used plastic ties to secure wire shelves to pipes and placed an old dishpan on bottom shelf. Blew over and broke one zipper so I used 4 tent stakes to secure it in ground. The plastic covering is very clear and permits ample sunlight to reach plants and heat dishpan water. I’ve added a thermometer and add a 1/2 gallon of boiling water to dishpan when nighttime temperature is projected to be below 30.
Customer Review: nice little greenhouse
