Dyson Mattress Tool

Dyson Mattress Tool
Customer Review: Dyson Mattress Tool
OK, so a vacuum cleaner tool is nothing to get excited about…but this tool is surprisingly useful! I used it to vacuum under the sofa cushions and was amazed at the amount of dust, hair and fluff it picked up!! Oh…and I found a few pound coins, too ;-)
Customer Review: Does what it says
I saw this on Amazon and thought why not. We have a Dyson (DC14 Animal), and so an extra attachment to add functionality sounded good. Basically it’s similar to an attachment we already had, but is about 3 times wider. So it sucks up more in less time. When changing the sheets I thought I’d try it out on our matress and protective cover. They appeared cleaner after passing over (but it’s hard to tell with grey/beige), and you could see more dust in the Dyson, so it must have done something!

I wouldn’t say it’s a must have, as you could do the same with the standard accessory (taking much longer). It’s good to see you can get these bits at reasonable prices - and since they fit all Dysons you could lend it to friends/family to use as well.

Dyson DC04/05/07/08 Hard Floor Tool

March 15th, 2008

Dyson DC04/05/07/08 Hard Floor Tool
Customer Review: A fantastic investment
This Dyson tool doesn’t look much for [...]but once you start using it you’ll be glad you bought it. Cleaning wooden floors is a doddle, very quick and it doesn’t scratch (very important to me - my Dyson DC04 upright was leaving terrible scuffs and scratch marks on my cherry veneer floors). I agree that the angle of the fitting tends to make you stoop a bit when you’re using it but that’s about the only drawback. I didn’t find that it came loose as some reviewers have complained (you just need to screw it on tightly in the first place). The suction is brilliant, so it’s great on rugs and carpets too. I’d definitely recommend this attachment, especially for hard surfaces.

Customer Review: Could be so much better
I agree with one of the previous reviews in that the angle and fitting of the attachment needs improving. The tool works extremely well when positioned correctly but in order to achieve this the “wand” needs to be held in an extremely awkward position. I also found that the attachment was prone to falling off which was very annoying. If Dyson could manufacture a type of adaptor which would angle the hard floor tool in an optimum position as well as ensuring a more secure fitting this would be be well worth 5 stars.

Customer Review: swampy
This was the first tool album i heard/bought, and I still recommend it as the best place to start for potential tool fans. To be honest, I’ve only heard one song from Opiate, so I can’t compare the two, but the artwork for Opiate puts me off investigating further. Anyway, listening to this 10+ years later, it still holds up as a rawer, rockier offering from a talented band. Swamp Song, Prison Sex, Intolerance and Undertow are classics, but the whole album deserves, as usual, to be played in it’s entirety. And seeing Swamp Song performed at London Wembley Arena last month was worth the admission alone.
Customer Review: The old future of progressive metal
This was the first tool album I owned. At first I thought it was “good”, but after you really listen to it you realise what a true masterpiece it really is. The whole album grows with you, each track compliments the others on the album. Melancholy lyrics combine with churning guitars, tight baselines and solid drum rhythm. I’ve heard this album referred to as progressive metal. It truely is. No bands from the nu-metal fold ome even close to the dark majecty that is tool. Listen to this album as a whole.

Making Sense of Change Management: A Complete Guide to the Models, Tools and Techniques of Organizational Change

March 11th, 2008

Making Sense of Change Management: A Complete Guide to the Models, Tools and Techniques of Organizational Change
Customer Review: Spot on for what it is trying to be
As one would hope from authors writing about change management, this book is well thought out and executed.

It’s not trying to be a massive, fully comprehensive tome on everything and anything to do with change management. Rather, it offers up some interesting theory and background on change, then follows it up with some practical chapters which are useful in many ways.

Even if you eschew the theory, it’s well worth the purchase price. However, the theory is interesting reading in its own right, and will assist you to inform your ideas about change and how it can be deal with.

Customer Review: Nothing as practical as good theory
I think this text is a fine attempt at bringing together a huge subject area in a readable format. The mix of theory from many parts of management thinking and discussion on application make it more than just an academic text book. Change is hard to implement, but sound theory well applied will be successful in most cases. This text provides a great grounding in both. Recommended for thoughtful change managers, not the ones who shoot first and aim later.

How to Make Knives
List Price: ?9.99

Customer Review: Start Here
This book is just what it ought to be. Readable, addresses the problems you need to know, easy to follow, short and cheap. If you want to be an expert smith, read Jim Hrisoulas as well. If you care about the history of other traditions, then read Leon Kapp. If you just want to start making your own high quality knives, even if you’re not used to metalworking, then start with this book. The authors do love their belt grinder ! Even though we’re not all manufacturing on a commercial scale, their workshop techniques are described well enough for any of us; from one-offs to shops. The production quality could be better. Some of the photos have a “homely” quality that reminds us of how difficult specialist book production could be before cheap computer-publishing. Maybe a discerning publisher will realise just how good a book this could be with a little more polish. That’s nit-picking though

The McKinsey Mind - Understanding and Implementing the Problem-Solving Tools and Management Techniques of the World’s Top Strategic Consulting Firm

March 9th, 2008

The McKinsey Mind - Understanding and Implementing the Problem-Solving Tools and Management Techniques of the World’s Top Strategic Consulting Firm
Customer Review: Must read
I have never worked in consulting before and I haven’t read the first book “McKinsey Way”. My expectation from the book was very much focused on my job in financial services: provide a structure to my problem solving process. I guess the book met my expectation very well, showed me a detailed step by step approach applicable to different types of problems, issues that might come up in each step and “keep in minds” to handle these issues. Considering my non-consulting background and job-specific expectations, I would say it’s a very good “must read” book.

Customer Review: Waste of time
This is probably one of the worst books you can read about consulting. Given the credentials of the McKinsey firm and given the fact the authors claim a lot of ex-McKinsey-ites participated in this book, one can not help but being very disappointed about the content.

The writers are clearly banking on McKinsey’s name and reputation. This is a shame and should not let you lured into buying the book.

This is a book with substance and great coffee table pictures as well. A good mix of technical advice and the stories of self builders written by a self builder and very experienced green Architect.

Customer Review: Contemplate, Prepare and then Do!
As an NLP Practitioner and Life Coach I have read a great many books on coaching and personal change and this is a book that really grabbed my attention… It is jam-packed with solid and sound advice, information and exercises that if practiced could genuinely help you make some real and significant change. There is plenty of information on the processes and stages of change as well as a concise personal change programme at the end of the book that distills all of the previous chapters into a highly workable self-coaching model. I highly recommend this book - 5 stars!

Customer Review: What not to clean.
Had some one told me this was a spoof-cleaning book, prior to reading it I would still believe them. Some of the tips are laughable, such as keeping a stack of freshly laundered table cloths, to stick over a pile of junk to disguise it when visitors come round, I killed myself laughing about that one. It did however make me feel a lot better, about the mess. This book did have some good advise about prioritising your cleaning and saving time in general. But to be honest, I would stick to Kim and Aggies book. Sorry if I cannot be more positive than that.

Bob The Builder Electronic Tool Bench

March 6th, 2008

Bob The Builder Electronic Tool Bench
Customer Review: Great item.
First thing to note with this item is that although Amazon state it is from 2yrs, the box does infact state 3yrs.

The only other down-side to this item is that there is no volume control, and by default the volume is quite loud.

On the other hand i would still recommend this item to other people as our 2 year old hasn’t stopped playing with it since Christmas day.

Assembly was straight forward, instructions were easy, took about 10 minutes to put together.

This item would have got full marks if it wasn’t for the volume issue.

Customer Review: Bob
I got 1 of these benches for my little boy as a christmas present. I would love to say that its fantastic but the tools and build quality do let it down. The sounds are very good and my boy loves them…but they are just a bit too loud…unless you want to wake the dead! my son would probably rate it as 5* only I’ve seen better units out there now.

The Weekend Novelist Writes a Mystery: From empty space to finished mystery in just 52 weekends - A dynamic step-by-step program
List Price: ?7.10
Amazon Price: ?6.78
Used Price: ?6.47
Customer Review: A breath of fresh air
This is an encouraging book about writing a mystery. The style is very engaging. The first sentence is “The world of mystery is a vibrant and exciting place.” They certainly capture your imagination to start you off. Mystery novel is in direct line with the Dragon or the Holy Grail of the myths and legends. The modern killer is the old dragon which disturbs the order in society. He must be made to pay for unsettling conditions for a peaceful life and terrorising people. As much as The Knight on horseback is the hero that will tackle the task to re-etablish the status quo, so is the sleuth. You are the one to endow him with all powers for him to devise the best tactics to defeat the killer. How does this guide help you? by asking you questions: about the villain, the detective, the victim, and so on. With your own replies, you are in the process of building your own story that will really suit you, because it will come from your own heart. One of their title is “having fun with writing”. The authors want you to indulge in creation. They take you step-by-step, so your “indulgence” is fruitful too. 52 weekends to write a mystery! Reading this book provoked my thoughts into wanting to write more than just during the 52 week-ends. I am stimulated by their ideas, their questioning, their comparisons. If you feel a bit sluggish, lacking a bit of confidence perhaps; or if you feel you want guidelines that will spur you on, then this is exactly the book that will fire your imagination, and fuel your energy to write. Yet it is gentle enough, not patronizing. By reading this, you know that they know, and you also know that they delight in telling you what they know, you are part of the wonderful creative process. Buy this with the assurance that you will be on the right track of writing an excellent mystery. You will enjoy doing it too! Buy it and enjoy being a writer of mystery!
Customer Review: It opens the door to plotting, planning and writing The Nove
I’ve attended dozens of creative writing classes and have the certificates to prove it. But no one, no one, has ever shown me the nuts and bolts of how to write a novel. Until I found The Weekend Novelist. I’ve written several children’s novels to 25,000 words and have found that they sink in the middle, that I’ve forgoten what colour a character’s hair is by the time I get to chapter 20, and that they wrap up all too quickly and shallowly. By sticking to the format of this book, I’ve found how to write stronger action, better dialogue and believable scenes, all contained in a book with beginning, middle and end. Friends have said it sounds too practical, with no heart. Wrong! Ray gets you to write creatively but with the bonus of a strong supporting structure. Great stuff. I went all the way to the USA to buy this. That was before we went on-line and sicovered Amazon which is a slightly cheaper way to buy books than travelling several thousand miles!

Customer Review: Try it - you might just like it
There tends to be a somewhat exclusive atmosphere surrounding music of this genre and era - an old boys fan club of which membership is rather difficult to obtain. However, as a young girl my dad introduced me to the fantastic album that is ‘Do It Yourself’ and we’ve been inseparable ever since. The diversity of the tracks and the ingenuity of the lyrics, for me, defines it as one of the best. The music is accessible despite its authoritative sound, and there’s certainly something for everybody here. So try it - you won’t be disappointed.
Customer Review: Jazz funk rock punk - it’s all here!
With Chaz Jankel more influential than on New Boots and Panties, The Blockheads really funked it up on DIY. Once again, Ian’s lyrics contain wit and a particulary Duryesque sideways look at life. But the lyrics didn’t undermine the sheer quality of the music. Listen out for some great performances by Mickey Gallagher, Charlie Charles, Norman Watt-Roy, Davie Payne and Chaz and Ian. Just lie back and think of England!
