Solar Water Heating: A DIY Guide
Customer Review: Excellent, concise, practical
This 24 page booklet provides all the information needed to build and install a DIY solar heating system. The author is knowledgable and his text is pleasingly free from from padding and dogma - e.g. he suggests the ideal location and orientation for a solar collector then continues to specify a range of measurements within which the collector’s performance won’t be adversely affected. The time I saved in not having to plough through pages of irrelevant Google results (as one other reviewer suggested) is worth far more to me than the modest cover price of this book. Probably the best “how to” book I’ve read.
Customer Review: Not worth ?5.99
This book / phamplet is ok IF it was ?1.99. With a bit of effort you can find all the information in this book via google. The design of the solar collector could be better and i’m not convinced that this book concentrates on a great design. Overall at ?5.99 it is overpriced and the same information is probably available in an ebook for 99p on eBay. Informative for the complete novice.

JCB SDS60 Screwdriver Set 60pc

April 29th, 2008

JCB SDS60 Screwdriver Set 60pc
Customer Review: Exceptional value, complete coverage
The variety of drivers you get in this set for under ?10 is really excellent. Plus they come in a compact handy plastic case. The quality seems fine to me - the rubberised handles are much easier to grip than solid plastic ones, and the chrome vanadium shafts should last a long time. You even get a reasonable socket set too - what more could you ask?!

Really happy with this product - 5 stars!

Customer Review: fantastic bargin
I bought this set from Amazon sometime back and never really got to use it until now.The quality is good when screwing or unscrewing you can feel the firm grip on the screw as you twist, hardly causing any ware on either the screw head or driver head, however the driver heads are painted black and you will see the paint coming off eventually .The fantastic assortment of drivers to choose from is jaw droping for DIY fanatics. The only gripe I would have is that they should have included a stubby flat screw driver as they only include a star one,hey but for the price you can’t really complain JCB almost got this one right, and at an AMAZING PRICE from AMAZING AMAZON.All I can say is get your self a bargin before the price goes up.

The Special Make An Extra Income, Inner Game and Biz Networking for DIY Deco On-line Biz Package (3 CDs)

FreeLogix - 3 Piece Watch Tool Set
A fantastic watch tool set for adjusting and removing watch bracelet and watch band links. Usually only available to watch shop owners - now made available to the public by FreeLogix here. This bonus set, not available anywhere else. * 100% Brand New * Watch strap link pin removal tool * Spring Bar tool * Fine Nosed Tweezers The FreeLogix - 3 Piece Watch Tool Set comprises of the most commonly used tools, and buying the same tools individually would cost a lot more. How to use: 1. Place watch strap on tool bed. 2. Adjust height of bed with wheel on side of tool. 3. Push the pin out by twisting the extractor handle with great ease and accuracy. 4. Remove or add watch links as required. 5. Place pin back into watch bracelet. 6. Push it through with tool. Some watch bracelets have arrows showing the direction the pins should be removed. Usually the pins have a flat end and a split end - you should push the pin from its flat end.
Customer Review: Great product
I buy watches a lot & am always paying a Jeweler to adjust the straps to fit my wrist. The final straw came when I bought a Carbon watch from next, which included in the box, a wrist tape measure & fill in return to sender form for watch strap adjustment that would cost me ?15 & a two week wait! I bought this together with the 10 piece watch tool kit. Great tools, well made & do the job. (2 watches, three links removed, 20 minutes!) Only gave 3 stars because of the packaging. Where are we supposed to store the tiny tools?! Surely not in the plastic wrapper it arrived in! otherwise i’d have given stars.

The S.P.I.N. Selling Fieldbook: Practical Tools, Methods, Exercises and Resources
Customer Review: Try it
I have read half of the book and I found it very interesting. I do not have selling experience but have read many book about selling. It seems that Rackham has really been working on his book. comparing to other material I have seen this is the best one. so far.
Customer Review: One of the Best
There’s a lot in this book. It takes you back to the basics of persuasion and ‘workbooks’ you through an evaluation process of what you should be asking and listening to in a sales process. In my opinion this book is the best thing next to actually paying a lot to go on one of their 2 day courses. As one of the SPIN course managers said, “We should have never written this book - it’s too good.” Surround what you learn in this book with techniques to generate solid business relationships, learn and practice presentation skills like it’s an olypic sport - and then you are well on your way to being in the top 10% of business earners.

Draper Value 71369 95 Pce Automotive Tool Kit

April 28th, 2008

Draper Value 71369 95 Pce Automotive Tool Kit
Draper Value, tool kit suitable for home automotive maintenance and other tasks around the home. Display packed in blow mould storage case.

Customer Review: Very handy but does have rough edges (sometimes literally)
Unfortunately the price has gone up a bit but it is still cheap for all the different tools, and it is handy to have them in one box.

I have used this over the last year to do a number of jobs on my car (and on other things for that matter) and really have found it indispensible.

However there are down sides.

For a start for many jobs you will need other tools (you can see the draper catalogue at www.draper.co.uk for what is included in this kit). You will probably need a bigger wrench, as well as larger socket sizes and larger spanners. Also, you should have a torque wrench (or two/three for different torque ranges) for doing work on a car, so that you have more chance of not over/under tightening bolts when butting them back on. TX star bits and sockets might well be needed too depending on your type of car.

I have not used a ?100 mechanic’s toolkit but I would be horrified if you could not tell the difference with this one as one of the other reviewers suggested. This kit is useable but is not high quality.

The sockets have a chrome plating which comes off easily and can be sharp (it might have been better if they had left out the plating and allowed you to take your own measures to protect against rust). One of my extension bars gets stuck in sockets (one of it’s fittings is slightly too large). The allen keys have an annoying habit of falling out of their holder in the plastic box when you close the box.

I am speculating now but the socket sizing is probably not as exact as more expensive ones so you should take extra care not to round nuts on your car.

Tip: I put a length of hosepipe over the bare metal of the handle of the wrench to make it more comfortable. A normal diameter garden hose was difficult to slide on but is a good fit once on, and the wrench still fits in the plastic box.

Customer Review: Very good value toolkit
I just got this kit not long ago for working on my bike as I have virtually no other tools. I could not be more happy with this. I showed it to a friend of mine who has many years of experience with fixing bikes and asked him how much he thought it was and his guess was ?100. Go buy one if you want to start maintaining your car/bike

The Apex NeverKink 2000 5/8-inch-by-100-foot heavy-duty ultra-flexible hose is guaranteed not to kink or tangle. It features durable solid brass couplings, Microshield — an antimicrobial protection that guards against mold and mildew — and a Power Coil protective collar to prevent kinking at the faucet. This hose features a 5/8-inch internal diameter and is rated for use up to 360 PSI.
List Price: $41.99
Amazon Price: $38.41
Customer Review: Kinky in Summer - Stiff in Winter
I’ve had this hose through summer 2007. It frequently kinks, it’s heavy and difficult to straighten…and, coiling it is a real wrestling match…with the hose often “winning”. Now that it’s getting cold, the hose has stiffened to the point that I cannot put it on our hose reel. My Wife struggled with it for 30-minutes the other day, just to untangle it and make 3-foot coils on our front yard. When I find a new, better hose…I may GIVE this one away to someone I really dislike.
Customer Review: nice product
i’ve only used it a couple of times, but the hose is of good quality and has not kinked on me yet. You will want to buy the nozzle attachment as well.

Customer Review: Perfect
If you haven’t heard Tool yet, you must, this is one of the most perfect albums in rock history, every member has extreme talent and yet it’s so modestly used. A beautifully sculpted album from beginning to end.
Customer Review: Astonishing.
I was introduced to Tool by watching a video of ‘Sober’, which is not on this album (it’s on ‘Undertow’). There are countless bands who rely on video for TV networks in order to make the first impression and sell. Take the video away and you are often left with dehydrated formulaic rubbish. So you need to evaluate something audibly. Tool blew me away with their sheer audacity, power and talent in arrangement, musicianship, songwriting, innovation and intelligence. They are just an incredible band delivering intense powerful innovative music in a world of mediocre formulaic chaff. Check out the video’s for ‘Stinkfist’ and ‘Aenima’ on You Tube. Both will give you an insight into Tool’s awesome prowess.

Gilmour Electronic Water Timer, #9100, Teal/Black
Incredibly easy to use, this electric lawn and garden timer from Gilmour keeps your yard looking its best, even during hot summer months. The two-dial system with electronic keypad is a snap to set: Simply press Enter and listen for the audio beep to confirm program entry; the system will then repeat the watering cycle at the interval set. You can set the program to repeat every 24 hours or you can set it to skip a day. You can also choose a repeat interval from once every six hours up to once every seventh day, and you can set the watering duration from two minutes up to 120 minutes. There are also manual on/off settings that let you water exactly how often you wish, and a swivel nut for easy connection to the faucet. The timer requires two AA alkaline batteries (not included).
List Price: $32.99
Amazon Price: $31.07
Customer Review: Some times malfunction
Some times when I push the enter button it does not work, or do I need to push it several times. Also, you must be awake to enter the hour you want it to be started. For example, if you want it to start at 3 AM in the morning, you must be awake to do this.
Customer Review: Worked Well First Week.
This product worked well the first week, then I had to change the soaker hose I had attached to it because the house had a leak. Then I wanted to add another soaker hose for the other side of the house. Well, when I attached both hoses and set the timer, the water was spraying everywhere at the site where the faucet connects to the timer. So, I had to manuver the timer around, and finally got it to stop spraying everywhere, but then the timer wouldn’t shut off, and go to the mode I had it set for. Usually, when you set it for the mode you want, it would automaticallly spray right then, but shut off after about 5 minutes, then resume it’s regular cyle without problem. Not, this time, it just kept right on running. I had to turn it off for a couple days thinking it would reset itself. And, it seems to have done that. When I set it again, everything seems to be running fine. My opinion is that this timer can be a hassle, and that so far no water timer that I’ve tried has worked exactly right.

For kids who want to experience the magic of growing their own garden, this kit is a fun and inventive experience. It contains everything you need to grow a small terrarium complete with an entire community of tiny fantastical inhabitants. Paint the special planter with the paints (three primary colors included), fill with soil, and then plant the enclosed beans and grass seeds. Then it’s time to arrange the tiny fairy cottage, use the green pebbles to make a tiny path, and decorate the garden with the rocks, shells, and plastic animals that come with the kit. As the beans sprout and grow, you can cut and shape them so they look like miniature trees–and for variety, add pepper, lemon, cantaloupe, and tomato seeds and watch just what comes up. –John Longenbaugh
Price: $21.99
Customer Review: So much fun!!
My kids and I had a great time doing this. And the grass grew so fast we didn’t have to wait long to enjoy it! I loved it as much as they did.
Customer Review: Fun, but not the quality expected
I bought 2 Wee Enchanted Gardens: one for my 6-year-old granddaughter and one for a prize for a drawing we were having at my Fitness group at church. When getting the pieces of the garden out to assemble with my granddaughter I was taken aback by the musty smell of its contents and how the railing of the little house broke off in my hands by merely pulling the miniature house out of its packaging. With much care, the wee garden was put together. I do not know if the seeds germinated or not because the one garden went home with my granddaughter who lives away from me and I didn’t ask the woman who won the other if she ever put it together.

Gardens of the World with Audrey Hepburn (Special Tribute Edition)
In Pursuit of Beauty offers an experience of remarkable authenticity, and a consummately incisive portrait of Audrey Hepburn: the bravura performer; the fine, collaborative artist; the delighted lover of gardens and nature, the life affirming humanitarian, and the truly gracious, incomparable star. Gardens of the World with Audrey Hepburn - Audrey’s Emmy Award winning and final performance before the camera - has been recognized as the most accomplished, beautiful garden series ever produced. Audrey believed that the gardens, not she, were the real stars, and wrote: “After years of challenge and reward in my own garden, I greatly looked forward to spending time in some of the world’s most beautiful gardens. I never imagined they would reveal the diverse range of expression they did.”

The new Tribute Edition 3-disc DVD features the complete series of 8 programs, with narration by renowned actor Michael York: Roses & Roses Gardens, Formal Gardens, Country Gardens, Public Gardens & Trees, Flower Gardens, Tropical Gardens, Japanese Gardens, Tulips & Spring Bulbs. Also included are selections from the original music soundtrack featuring the works of Purcell, Debussy, Ravel, Rameau, Vivaldi, Copland and more.

BONUS FEATURE: Until now, the story of Audrey Hepburn’s decided influence in Gardens Of The World has never really been told. who better to tell this enchanting story than Audrey herself? The newly produced 45-minute documentary reconstructs Audrey Hepburn’s grand world tour for Gardens of the World - cin?ma v?rit?, with intimate never-before-released footage of Audrey on location in the spring and summer of 1990 - and premiers on the Gardens of the World with Audrey Hepburn Tribute Edition 3-disc DVD . “I know that for Audrey the making of Gardens of the World was not only a marvelous adventure, but also one of the most rewarding experiences of her life and career”, noted Audrey’s life partner, Robert Wolders. “The new documentary so wonderfully captures her heart and spirit. It confirms those personal qualities of Audrey the public somehow instinctively imagines to be true, but otherwise would NEVER be able to know.”
List Price: $24.99
Amazon Price: $21.99
Used Price: $15.93
Customer Review: Audrey and her Love of Gardening
A gardening book full of history, culture and poetic prose is put to video with Audrey Hepburn as your tour guide. Great travel writing. Classy lady. Audrey Hepburn fans will enjoy this, her last project. She doesn’t do all the voice overs. Michael York took over the voice narration after she passed away.
Customer Review: Really Beautiful
It is extremely hard to find quality garden videos so I was a little concerned this would fall flat, but be assured…this is truly worth the money. I was so delighted that I had to buy it for my parents and have recommended it highly to gardening friends. It is so much more than just video of beautiful gardens, Audrey Hepburn is gracious and elegant and inspirational. In addition it is a wonderful value as you get 2 dvd.s and there is hours of beauty to enjoy on each dvd. I have watched these over and over and just love the lift I get…especially during the winter months. You won’t be disappointed.

In Defense of Food: An Eater’s Manifesto
What to eat, what not to eat, and how to think about health: a manifesto for our times

“Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.” These simple words go to the heart of Michael Pollan’s In Defense of Food, the well-considered answers he provides to the questions posed in the bestselling The Omnivore’s Dilemma.

Humans used to know how to eat well, Pollan argues. But the balanced dietary lessons that were once passed down through generations have been confused, complicated, and distorted by food industry marketers, nutritional scientists, and journalists-all of whom have much to gain from our dietary confusion. As a result, we face today a complex culinary landscape dense with bad advice and foods that are not “real.” These “edible foodlike substances” are often packaged with labels bearing health claims that are typically false or misleading. Indeed, real food is fast disappearing from the marketplace, to be replaced by “nutrients,” and plain old eating by an obsession with nutrition that is, paradoxically, ruining our health, not to mention our meals. Michael Pollan’s sensible and decidedly counterintuitive advice is: “Don’t eat anything that your great-great grandmother would not recognize as food.”

Writing In Defense of Food, and affirming the joy of eating, Pollan suggests that if we would pay more for better, well-grown food, but buy less of it, we’ll benefit ourselves, our communities, and the environment at large. Taking a clear-eyed look at what science does and does not know about the links between diet and health, he proposes a new way to think about the question of what to eat that is informed by ecology and tradition rather than by the prevailing nutrient-by-nutrient approach.

In Defense of Food reminds us that, despite the daunting dietary landscape Americans confront in the modern supermarket, the solutions to the current omnivore’s dilemma can be found all around us.

In looking toward traditional diets the world over, as well as the foods our families-and regions-historically enjoyed, we can recover a more balanced, reasonable, and pleasurable approach to food. Michael Pollan’s bracing and eloquent manifesto shows us how we might start making thoughtful food choices that will enrich our lives and enlarge our sense of what it means to be healthy.

Customer Review: Excellent book
Infomation on food that is a priority to health, very detailed on today’s food sources. I’ll keep mine for reference use, bought second book to give as gift.
Customer Review: Four simple steps to a healthy diet
The steps presented are not so simple, but you can make of them what you want. The real draw from this book is that it makes you rethink Universal Healthcare. Considering the role of the FDA in authorizing what’s healthy and what isn’t.

The Complete Guide to Decks: A Step-by-step Manual for Building Decks (Black & Decker Outdoor Home)
Customer Review: Nevertheless, building a deck is not a piece of cake..
GREAT book!!! Everything is detailed and explained. Reliable and thorough text. Step-by-step pictures. However, if you are a casual handyman you’ll find out that building a deck isn’t just a weekend’s work. Best results come with a bit of help from a smart friend or relative… A friend of mine who overestimated himself set out for a deck and ended up with a horror that had to be taken down half way through :-)))) I’m doing just great with mine. Good Luck!
Customer Review: Buy this book and you will be able to build your own deck
Buy this book and no matter what your skill level you will be able to build your own deck. I read this book and was even more convinced I could build my own deck. The deck I am planning to build is very large, will have a hot tub in it and be multi level. I have every confidence that I will be able to do it myself and when visiting local timber merchants who sell decking I discovered that I knew more than them. It stops them from giving you BS. I posted the book to my father-in-law who’s is going to help me. He phoned me two days later and reckons that the book has given him everything he needs to know in order to build the deck. If you are planning a complex or a simple deck this book has it all.

Customer Review: Why go to the barbers ?
After 20 odd years of going to the barbers, sitting in the chair talking about the same old stuff you know, football, holidays, the weather etc and even leaving a tip for a job well done. I decided to invest in these clippers i’ve got to say I was a bit dubious about doing it myself after reading other reviews about other types of clippers. I need not have worried ! These are absolutley brilliant. I have fine hair and just have the grade 2 all over once a week dead easy to use, no chance of altering the grade switch therefore no patchy hair and easy to shave the back of the head due to the rotating the swivel head, lightweight, excellent battery life. These clippers will have paid for themselves in another month.
Customer Review: Definitely worth the high price.
These clippers are well worth the money. Phillips have surprised me on this. It cuts brilliantly, absolutely no patches left behind, every one I know is amazed that I cut my hair myself. I am 30 and have been a hippy with long hair for 15 years and now I have a crew cut & I fit in:) So far these clippers have no flaws but then again I have only used them once, I hope they last. Excellento.

Linux Pocket Guide (Pocket Guide: Essential Commands)

April 22nd, 2008

Linux Pocket Guide (Pocket Guide: Essential Commands)
Customer Review: Best command line deskside Linux guide
If you do choose to explore the command line interface of Linux this may be the only book you need buy. True, if you are setting up a network or a LAMP server you will need much more, but if your goal is to gain an insight into what goes on under the hood of Linux or you just need an aide memoire for common Linux commands, this is the best book available. Written in a style that works both as a tutorial and a reference work its only real weakness is the absence of a simple quick reference guide to Linux commands - you have to rely on the index. Although it aims at a Fedora audience, there is probably no user of any other distro that won’t find this book worth the purchase price. And it’s a very convenient size to literally slip into your pocket.

Customer Review: Indispensable
Ever spent hours on the Web trying to find an accurate, comprehensive set of most-used *nix commands and features? This book saves you all that time. For its size, it is quite an achievement - nicely written and laid out. Always within arm’s reach here.

Customer Review: Solid product , large box delivered on time
This storage box is great value, I have a couple of more expensive outside storage cabinets and this unit is as good when assembled. There were a few extrusion points that needed to be cut to allow final assembly, and so some reasonable knowledge beyond the instruction page was needed, but the finished result is excellent and at about 50% of the price of the rubbermaid totally worth it. The box is comes in is BIG, and delivery took a couple of weeks, but this was stated up front.
Customer Review: Good service; acceptable quality
This item arrived promptly and in good condition. The construction is sturdy and interior very capacious. However, the top tends to shift from side to side, rather than snap snuggly in place over the bottom. With care, it works well.

Joomla! A User’s Guide: Building a Successful Joomla! Powered Website

Joomla! A User’s Guide: Building a Successful Joomla! Powered Website
Customer Review: Moving from Joomla 1.0 to 1.5
I came to this book having previously implemented a Joomla 1.0 site, wanting to know what Joomla 1.5 has to offer. The depth of Barrie North’s knowledge is impressive and his explanations are very clear. I found myself focussing on chapters 9 and beyond, covering templates and examples of practical site implementation, dipping back into previous chapters for reference detail. The book was written before the Joomla 1.0 to 1.5 migration process was finalised, so it doesn’t cover practical migration steps. However, this topic is well documented on the Joomla site.

Some advanced subjects are well covered, such as Google Adwords conversion, going beyond other books I have read. The book does a good job of explaining Joomla to the new user and clarifying topics for the more experienced user.

I thoroughly recommend the book.

Customer Review: I can see Joomla! clearly now …..
I’m planning to build my first website. Content is King. I’ve done the due diligence bit, and decided that Joomla! is the one for me, but it seemed so complex.

Well that’s no longer the case; Barrie Norman has produced an excellent guide to the brand new 1.5 version of Joomla! and having read it I feel entirely confident that I’ll soon have a site up and running.

The book is very well produced, excellent quality, seems to cover all that you’ll need to know and is well laid out. It’s well written in that time-proven style; tell ‘em what you’re gonna tell ‘em; tell them; tell them what you’ve told them. The order of the chapters is logical and it is easy to follow through.

One of the hardest concepts to grasp is that of Sections, Categories, and Articles, but the author leads you through this in an easy ‘building knowledge as you go’ style which results in you ultimately gaining a full understanding of all the constituent parts and how thay fit together.

The example sites for a school, restaurant and blog site make for really useful case studies.

The interviews with existing owners of a variety of sites explaining why they chose Joomla!, what they like about it, what extra add-ons they are using, and relating their user experiences are also really useful.

There are also a couple of sections on that oh so vital black-art of Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), and it’s great to get the heads-up on all these important tips & tricks before creating your website. It’ll be so much simpler to get it right first time, and there’s no point in building a site that nobody can find!

I am entirely confident that a few hours reading this book will pay back many-fold when it comes to actually developing my site.

I would recommend that anybody embarking on a Joomla! site build buys this book and reads it first.

Customer Review: Lustmord…
Two groundbreaking bands merge to create this excellent DVD. Amazing video, even more amazing remix by legendary Lustmord. 5+
Customer Review: Fantastic!!!
TOOL videos are just unbelievable. They look so beautiful the attention to detail is mind blowing! If you’re a TOOL fan you’ll know that already. The only time I saw the Schism video before was at a TOOL gig a few years back. This DVD is well worth the money, the remix is fantastic. It’s not a cut and paste, with bits thrown in job like most “remixes” this is completely different. It’s long!! I’ve yet to check out the commentary but I doubt it’s “boring”. If you liked Salival you’ll love this.

Customer Review: Very dissapointed beader
I ordered this book believing that I was really going to learn new ways or get fresh ideas for jewelry, but I was very dissapointed to find out I was not. Some of the projects looked very interesting, but the instructions lack clear explanation and some of the pictures were confusing. It seem to be the photo of the same step of the project. Not recommend, unless you have a good experience with many techniques. I consider myself to be a experience/diverse jewelry maker, and this book certanly won’t explain or shown me new Ideas.

The Lean Six Sigma Pocket Toolbook: A Quick Reference Guide to 70 Tools for Improving Quality and Speed

The Lean Six Sigma Pocket Toolbook: A Quick Reference Guide to 70 Tools for Improving Quality and Speed
Customer Review: Nearly 100 Tools For Improving
A really nice compact book with an open and easy style for quick reference on the key tools that help with Lean Six Sigma problem solving.

Lots of pictures and diagrams supporting explainations.

I would be happy recommend this to add to a belt’s library as tool reference book in support training in a deployment.

Customer Review: Superb Toolbook for Reference!!
It is a great guide for Six Sigma, I bought it because I took quite a lot of lectures on different Six Sigma topics at University, but now that I’m working I needed to refresh my mind and this book has proven to be very handy in terms of reference. Now, half of my time is destined to Six Sigma Projects and this toolbook has helped me to keep the Six Sigma Structure when doing a project, as well as referring to different statistical tools which I might have forgotten. I would highly recommend this book if you have already a background knowledge of Six Sigma, but if you are just starting with this methodology I would advice to look for more in-deep books.
