10,000 Days

10,000 Days
With a majority of the songs on 10,000 Days clocking in well past the seven-minute mark, you wouldn’t be entirely mistaken in thinking that the title of the album refers to how long it actually takes to make it through the whole thing. Two of the tracks–the sitar and tabla enhanced “10,000 Days (Wings Part 2)” and its suitably epic psych-rock sister “Rosetta Stoned”–even linger on for nearly a dozen leisurely minutes each. That’s delightful news for the legion of Tool fans that have been waiting five years for the follow-up to 2001’s Lateralus, which debuted at number one and sold 2.3 million copies in the United States. Singer Maynard James Keenan is back on mystical form after his hiatus with the politically slanted A Perfect Circle, sounding at once ethereal and eloquent as he calmly charges through the metal tempest of the opening track “Vicarious.” The rest of the band, meanwhile, hits a series of high-flying moments with tracks such as “Jambi” and “The Pot.” When Tool sounds as good as it does on these songs it’s hard to get enough. Which makes it all the more baffling that a surprisingly large chunk of the disc is given over to mood-enhancing soundscapes like “Lost Keys” and “Vigniti Tres.” Who has time for filler? –Aidin Vaziri

Customer Review: tool take the toll
How unremarkable

In here Tool sound like a copy of themselves

There are echoes of their previous offerings all over the place

Repetitive at times and falls short by any Tool standarts

See you in six years lads

Cheers

Customer Review: Tool - 10 000 Days
Stating from the outset that I’m a Tool fan: Saw them in 2002 in Canberra and they we’re bloody amazing. It was loud, (undeniably so - even the young kids in the audience were stuffing tissues in their ears - me, an older and wiser monkey came prepared with the industrial ear-plugs I take with me to every gig these days). There was an arrogance to the band which appealed to me, they didn’t play to the punters, they played their wonderful music and left me feeling a buzz I hadn’t felt from a live gig for years.

That was the Lateralus tour and that album was my favourite until 10 000 days.

Opening tracks seem to be Tool’s strong point (The Grudge on Lateralus was brilliant); Vicarious is another step up. An incredible opener. You just finish Vicarious and are hanging open-mouthed when Jambi pummels the ears and brain. Good stuff keeps coming with the extended Wings for Marie/10 000 Days - a brooding and emotional piece which charts the 27 years from the initial stroke and paralysis to death of Maynard’s mother. The Pot’s another bunker-blaster. Other very listenable tracks include the penultimate Right in two. Unfortunately the CD ends with the anti-climactic Viginti-tres. Tool do have a (annoying to me) habit of adding filler tracks - nothing much happens for five minutes. A pity as it takes off a point. However, the whole package outweighs this minor whinge for me. An amazing CD and for me Tool’s best.

Customer Review: PCTools & 64-bit
I have to agree with the previous reviewer regarding PCTools sneaky way of automatically deducting the money from your account each year. I got caught out by this and I did not even sign up for automatic renewal. They do, however, cancel the auto subscription and refund your money if you ask them to. Also be aware that althougth the product states it works on Windows Vista, it only provides basic support on Vista. Oh, and do not buy if you have a 64-bit OS; this company seems to be very reluctant and slow about making their products 64-bit compatible. I would choose a different product if I were you.
Customer Review: Beware of this company.
Beware of this company. If you download and install their software, once you pay you have to register and manually prevent them from automatically debiting your account at each renewal (yes, that means they don’t need your permission to take your money)

Customer Review: A really useable D I Y book
Handily it’s pocket size. It is a rather thick little book but one has to expect that for it’s wealth of information. In A-Z fromat it can give you blow by blow instructions on everthing from changing the taps on your bath tub to retiling the house. Most other DIY manuals give you much the same and I have yet to across a poor one, to be honest, but this shrunken format is the joy. One hardly has time to sit with a glossy hardback in the middle of a building site after all!
